Arizona became the 48th state in 1912, but the history of Tucson goes back many years. The name "Tucson" is derived from an Ancient Hohokam word "Chuk-son," or "village of the dark spring at the foot of the mountains." The city itself was established in 1775 when the Spanish conquistadors built a presidio in what is now the downtown area.

Tucson has many cultural attractions in the surrounding area. We have included links to sites ranging from visual arts and museums to live performances.
